Take Ivy Reissued!

That's right, the internets are abuzz with rumors about an August 31st reissue of the famous book, Take Ivy. For $25 you can pre-order a copy of the book which has spawned an on-line and fashion-world sensation. Word has it that there might also be an English translation from the original Japanese. Check out the preorder here.

Commonwealth Utilities F/W 2010

Runway looks and fashion designers don’t usually pique my interest, but Commonwealth Utilities has a great line-up for Fall/Winter 2010. Each look seems shockingly easy to wear in an everyday sense. The rolled and cropped trousers/denim look fantastic, and it’s great to see another designer distance their collection from the super-tight skinny jean fad. I find these things hard to describe, but it strikes me as a sophisticated working class get-up.

Brooks Bros. Extra-Slim Fit

Finding shirts that fit slim enough and in just the right places has been the bane of my existence. I could always find something at the thrift store and have a tailor alter the shirt, but this often costs just as much as a new shirt. Living in Long Island can be tough when dry cleaners charge as much as they do, or perhaps I’m going to the wrong dry cleaner. Luckily, Brooks Brothers has solved this dilemma with their new Extra-Slim Fit Shirt.

My Obsession: Part 2

Messageboards.

Yes, we revisit my obsession with a dissection of my two favorite mens style and clothing related message boards, StyleForum and Superfuture.

StyleForum (SF): To the best of my knowledge, SF was created as an off-shoot of the GQ forums. The messageboard is split into two main for a, Men’s Style and General. Men’s Style is further separated into Men’s Clothing, Streetwear and Denim, Health & Body, Social Life, Food and Drink, and Buying and Selling. General contains General Chat, Current Events, Power and Money, Entertainment and Culture, and Fine Living, Home Design & Auto.

Futile Resistance

One thing that I swore never to own years ago, I now find in my possession. The funny thing is… this happens so frequently, I don’t know why I resist so much in the first place. Similar statements have been made about Starbucks coffee, pink shirts, boat shoes, etc., but I still find some way to deem them acceptable. What is this new possession you ask? A Moleskine notebook. …sigh.

My Obsession

Like so many other guys, I guess my interest in clothing was re-ignited by my transition from college to work. My usual beat-up jeans, t-shirt, skate shoe combination just wouldn’t cut it anymore. The inevitable trip to the department store soon followed, where I bought the typical young business casual wear; black “office pants,” tent-like shirts, plain sweaters, and a few ties. Not all of it was terrible, but I had no idea what I was doing.

Fast-forward a couple years.

Sebago Loafer S/S 2010

Last week, I posted the new Spring/Summer Allen Edmond stock, which featured a very sleek version of the penny loafer. Today, I present just the opposite. Sebago has created a much more rugged, and in a way, much more appealing version of the loafer.
